SYNOPSIS

King of Glory is a one-act play that presents the life of Christ as seen through the eyes of an old shepherd.  Entertaining and humorous, the message is clear:  Jesus is the Good Shepherd Who has laid down His life for His sheep.  He now offers eternal life to any who will believe in Him.

This unique stage play, written and performed by Dr. Alan R. Niquette, has been adapted from its original Christmas version (1988), for year-round performance.  In this one-act play you will meet an old shepherd, Malchia, who was a young boy, tending sheep near Bethlehem the night Jesus was born.  He didn't see the angels.   In fact, he didn't come to understand what happened that night until many years later.  But he has his own story to tell and a burning desire to tell it.

Journey back in time, to the busy streets of a small Judean villiage.  The market place is loud with the voices of people, buying and selling.  Take a moment in this busy day to listen.  The old shepherd may not be a polished orator, but he has a message that simply must be heard.  And with the help of his young friend, Zak, he is determined to tell his story to anyone who will listen. Why?  Because he knows that his story is filled with so much hope and wonder, it could change forever the lives of those who hear it.

The play touches on the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus, and then focuses on the significance of the phrase "The Good Shepherd."  After recalling a touching story from his own childhood, as the son of a shepherd, Malchia raises the question, "How could Jesus be called both the King of Glory and the Good Shepherd?"  He then offers his own theory--a very satisfying answer to that question.

King of Glory made its debut at Olympic View Friends Church, Tacoma, Wash. in 1996. After seeing the debut Pastor Rich Miller commented:

"Dr. Alan and Beth Niquette have done it again.  King of Glory is a very poignant portrait of an elderly shepherd.   The play, in its entirety, is a monologue in which the shepherd remembers when he met the Lamb of God and the impact Jesus' life, death and resurrection had on him.  For all the years since, he can't help but tell the story about the "King of Glory" to anyone who is willing to listen.  There is an especially touching episode of the simple shepherd caring for his sheep -- even the one that was lost -- that is sure to tug on your heart strings.  King of Glory is certain to be a favorite and much-requested production from DDM!"
